I’ve been seeing a women’s aid support worker since I got out of my abusive relationship recently, but I’ve since realised that my dad, who I’m living with right now, is also abusive. He’s a pretty violent, aggressive, verbally abusive man, though he hasn’t laid his hands on me yet.

I want to tell my WA support worker about this, but I’m worried she’ll have to tell someone/the police, since my mum also lives in the same house, and he sees his grandkids (not my kids)?

I’d like support around it, and around getting myself out, but I don’t want to unintentionally get any services involved.

      Hi fika,

I’m so sorry to hear about the abuse you’re experiencing from your dad. It sounds like a tough realisation, especially when you’re trying to recover from what you went through in your relationship. I can understand your concerns and you deserve to have support.

Your local service will have their own policies around confidentiality and instances in which they may need to breach that. You could speak with your support worker about what their policies and procedures are before disclosing anything about your dad, that may help you feel reassured.

      Take care and keep posting,
      Lisa

Thankyou for this info Lisa 🙂 I’ve got an appointment booked with her so I’ll make sure to ask before I disclose. Thanks for the well wishes, I’m trying to figure out what to do. Very confusing time, as you say
